Airtel, Vodafone Lose. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost subscribers in May, losing a total of 56.11 lakh wireless subscribers. Reliance Jio continued its success with over 36.577 lakh subscribers. BSNL has seen a staggering 2 lakh subscribers but wireless subscriber additions. Total wireless subscribers fell to 114,391 crores at the end of May from 114.952 crores at the end of May, according to TRAI’s latest telecom subscription data.
Airtel, Vodafone Lose
Bharti Airtel saw a decline of 47.428 lakh subscribers and Vodafone Idea saw a loss of 47.263 lakh subscribers in May, according to a Troy report. In total, Vodafone Idea and Airtel lost more than 94 lakh subscribers in a month. This is more than the two telcos lost in April, in which they lost more than 75 lakh, wireless subscribers. Since the entry of Reliance Jio into the telecommunications sector, these telcos have been consistently losing their market share. As mentioned, Reliance Jio added 36.577 lakh subscribers and BSNL added 2.015 lakh subscribers.
Reliance Jio has 34.33 percent market share, Bharti Airtel has 27.78 percent market share and Vodafone Idea has 27.09 percent market share. BSNL has the fourth-largest market share at 10.50%.
Coming to Broadband, the number of subscribers in this segment increased from 67.614 crores at the end of April to 68.377 crores, showing a growth rate of 1.13 percent at the end of the month.
In the wireless segment, Geo Rules came in second with 39.275 crore subscribers, followed by Airtel with 14.355 crore subscribers and Vodafone Idea with 11.305 crore subscribers. In the wire segment, BSNL topped the list with 24.1 lakh subscribers, Adria Convergence Technologies with 16.4 lakh subscribers, and Hathway and Geo with 9.7 lakh subscribers each.
