The new production plan is said to be kicked off by Apple partner Vistron in the middle of next year. The Cupertino company is already integrating several existing iPhone models in the country. This includes dated models such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR and the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7. Wistron began reconnecting iPhone models in May 2017.
According to Business Standard, the iPhone 12, which has not yet been formally announced by Apple, will be the seventh iPhone model to be made in India. The newspaper quoted those familiar with the development as saying that production would take place at Wistron’s Karnataka facility.

Apple has so far localized production of five iPhone models in the country, with the iPhone 11 being the latest model to receive Mac-in-India treatment in July. Wistron also plans to launch the iPhone SE (2020) in the country by the end of this year.
The Business Standard report also states that Wistron plans to hire approximately 10,000 workers at a new facility to expand the local production process. However, the facility currently has about 1,000 workers. In addition, the contract will cost the manufacturer Rs. 2,900 crore to increase its operations.
According to a separate report by The New Indian Express, the new facility provided by Wistron is located in Narasapura, Kolar district, 70 km from Bangalore. This is the second facility of the contract manufacturer in Karnataka after the first facility in Peenya in Bangalore which is already producing the previous iPhone models.
Earlier this month, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that Apple’s contract manufacturers Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron had applied for a $ 6.64 billion (approximately Rs 49,768 crore) project under the government’s production-linked stimulus (PLI) scheme to expand local production. In the country. Both Foxconn and Wistron already produce iPhone models locally, although Pegatron has not yet started its local production in the country. However, the country is in talks with the authorities to start its operations soon.
